Zinc and Magnesium supplements like Now Foods ZMA are used by athletes and bodybuilders to help stimulate muscle growth and maintain strength. They also serve as an additional mineral supply as intensive physical activities may decrease zinc and magnesium levels. Zinc and magnesium are also beneficial for normal recovery after tough exercises that injure muscle tissues. Zinc is one of the natural antioxidants that protect cells against oxidation and damage. It also works by revitalising the thymus gland for T-cell production, which contributes to a healthy immune system. Zinc benefits the structure and functions of the digestive and reproductive systems in both men and women. Zinc supplements support healthy bones, eyes, skin, and nails. In children, zinc is essential for normal growth as it is needed in the production of growth hormones. For men, zinc is involved in the manufacturing of testosterone, the hormone responsible for primary male characteristics. Magnesium is known to strengthen the body’s coping mechanism against stress. This micronutrient is also reputed to inhibit blood clot formation for an efficient circulation. Magnesium supplements are also recommended to support normal blood pressure levels. It also works by preventing the harmful side effects of extremely high blood sugar levels to the eyes, kidneys, and nerves. Magnesium benefits bone strength, as well as cardiovascular functions. It is also needed to maintain levels of potassium, calcium, and phosphorus to achieve electrolyte balance.

Now Foods ZMA conjoins the two important trace minerals into one supplement for muscular health and natural recovery after intensive exercise. Zinc is a very important trace mineral largely found in the retina of the eyes, inner ear, prostate, and thymus glands. Obtaining adequate zinc levels is critical for the health of these organs. The best food sources of zinc are protein rich foods like beef, pork, lamb, lobster, crabmeat, salmon, chicken, dairy products, peanuts, brown rice, beans, cereals, and potato. If the regular diet is not made of these zinc-rich foods, zinc supplements can be taken as replenishment. Magnesium, the second mineral is largely found in the bones up to 50%, the other half is concentrated inside the cells and tissues, and 1% of total magnesium is found in the blood. Magnesium from the diet is absorbed in the small intestines. Spinach, legumes, nuts, and whole grains are good sources of dietary magnesium.
