Product Description

Betaine Anhydrous or Trimethylglycine is a methyl donor naturally produced in the body. Methyl donors donate methyl molecules crucial for cellular processes and other biological activities occurring in the body. TMG benefits healthy liver functions, carnitine production, and cellular reproduction. Betaine is involved in metabolism of homocysteine that benefits overall cardiovascular health.

  • Betaine Anhydrous works together with the B Vitamins B6, B12, and folic acid in regulating homocysteine levels. Multiple studies have linked elevated homocysteine levels to increased risk for atherosclerosis or the hardening of the arteries. By correcting this imbalance, TMG may help lower the risk for high blood pressure, heart attack, stroke, and Coronary Artery Disease (CAD).
  • Trimethylglycine offers liver protection. Clinical studies on rats discovered that Betaine may have protective effects against fat deposits in the liver. Fatty liver is usually an effect of alcoholism, diabetes, obesity, and insufficient protein intake. Research suggests that alcohol abuse increases the activity of the Sterol Regulatory Element-Binding Protein-1 or SREBP-1 which induces fatty liver disease. Research authors also found that administering Betaine to mice with alcohol-induced fatty liver inhibited SREBP-1 and demonstrated improved liver conditions.
  • The US FDA has approved Trimethylglycine for improving the symptoms of homocystinuria. Homocystinuria is a hereditary condition present at birth characterised by accumulation of toxic levels of homocysteine in the blood. Signs and symptoms of Homocystinuria include abnormal bone development, weak bones, excessive tiredness, seizures, eye lens discoloration, and blood clot. Children suffering from hemacystinuria have slowed development and slowed weight gain. They are also at higher risk of developing cardiovascular disease as early as their twenties.
  • Other potential benefits of Betain include supporting healthy mood in depression, mental health in trauma, and reducing the risk for diabetes. TMG is believed to support healthy production of S-adenosyl methionine or SAMe, which is known to alleviate depression. The same mechanism works at retracing the symptoms associated with trauma such as anger, anxiety, depression, and fear.

Betaine Anhydrous, also called Betaine or Trimethylglycine is one of the methyl donors, nutrients that give off methyl molecules so that some chemical processes are carried out. This non-toxic substance is naturally manufactured in the body but is also present in some food including beets, grains, broccoli, spinach and shellfish. Betaine is notably involved in achieving optimal homocysteine balance. Homocysteine is one of the non-protein amino acids present in the blood acquired from eating meat. Having high levels of homocysteine in the blood has been linked with early development of heart diseases. Elevated homocysteine is often caused by deficiency in Vitamin B6, Vitamin B12, and folate, and also renal disease. TMG has also been used to correct the elevated levels of homocysteine in people diagnosed with the genetic condition called homocystinuria.
