Cordyceps Sinensis is an atypical mushroom-like fungus in the cold mountains of China, Nepal, and Tibet. The natives call it the “caterpillar fungus”, “winter worm” and “summer grass”. The medicinal use of Cordyceps has been known to the Chinese for more than 1500 years now. They use it as a rejuvenating tonic for more energy and traditional Chinese doctors prescribe it for diseases of the heart, lungs, and the immune system. In 1993, a Cordyceps-based tonic became world renowned because the winners of a World Track and Field Championship who were Chinese, revealed it as the secret for their unbeatable agility. After that, this rare therapeutic fungus became an active ingredient for energy drinks. Cordyceps supplements are regularly used by cyclists, swimmers, and runners.
