Doctor’s Best Stabilized R-Lipoic Acid 100mg

R-Lipoic Acid is the more bioavailable form of Alpha Lipoic Acid, a nutrient involved in maintaining normal functions of the brain, heart, immune, and the body’s detoxification system. ALA is essential for energy production, free radical defences, recycling of other antioxidants, and healthy ageing. When used as part of the diet, R-Lipoic Acid can be useful in stabilising blood sugar levels.

  • R-Lipoic Acid can support blood sugar balance by helping to stimulate blood glucose metabolism and insulin sensitivity. Patients suffering from full blown diabetes are having trouble achieving both, so blood sugar remains in the bloodstream unutilised by the cells. Extremely high blood sugar is damaging to the kidneys (renal failure), nerves (neuropathy), and eyes (retinopathy). These organs can suffer progressive damage when blood sugar is uncontrolled.
  • As an antioxidant, R-Lipoic Acid can offer maximum protection against oxidative damage from free radicals. Free radicals attack the cells and tissues in the brain, eyes, joints, blood vessels, and skin. Antioxidant protection is strongly linked to positively helping achieve mental alertness, flexible joints, younger looking skin, visual acuity, and healthy circulation.
  • Apart from being an antioxidant itself, Alpha Lipoic Acid is known to regenerate other antioxidants like Vitamins C and E. There are also studies suggesting that ALA supports the cells in manufacturing glutathione, the body’s most powerful antioxidant.
  • Alpha Lipoic acid shows potential in promoting optimum visual health. With age, the structures of the eyes endure free radical damage which can lead to a wide variety of eye conditions like cataract, macular degeneration, and eventually blindness.
  • Alpha Lipoic Acid is becoming well known for helping  protect brain cells from free radical attack. There is a strong link between free radical damage and the formation of amyloid plaques in the neurons, the signature characteristic of dementia.
  • Lipoic Acid is the subject of numerous studies to maintain healthy bone density. Bone loss and some degenerative bone conditions are also considered as an aftermath of oxidative stress. ALA’s ability to neutralise free radicals can help keep the bone’s normal strength and functions even in older adults.

Alpha Lipoic Acid is a naturally occurring vitamin-like nutrient that exhibits protective effects for the nervous, cardiovascular, and immune system. Its ability to support healthy glutathione production supports the body’s natural detoxification processes. ALA also known as thioctic acid exists in two forms or sterioisomers – the R-Lipoic Acid (RLA) and the S-Lipoic Acid (SLA). Of the two, R-Lipoic acid has been shown to be more bioavailable or can be easily used and absorbed by the human body. Alpha Lipoic Acid is produced by the liver in other body tissues, where it is used by enzymes to catalyse different biochemical reactions for normal body functions. For example, the cell’s mitochondria need ALA to produce cellular energy in the form of ATP. The heart requires the largest supply of ATP to perform its pumping action to supply oxygen to the various organs in the human body. Alpha Lipoic Acid supplements can provide the body with ALA’s potent antioxidant properties to help combat oxidative damage – the leading cause of premature ageing and degenerative diseases.
