Apple Pectin is primarily used to promote intestinal balance for overall digestive health. This water-soluble fiber does this by regulating normal bowel movements for healthy detoxification. Overall digestive support helps relieve diarrhea, constipation, inflammatory bowel disease, and other digestive problems. Apple pectin supplements support efficient digestion of foods to maximise the use of carbohydrates, proteins, and fats. Proper assimilation of carbohydrates helps normalise blood sugar levels. Managing blood glucose levels is particularly helpful for those at high risk of developing diabetes and for those already suffering from the disease. Also, maximum use of fats in the digestive tract help keep blood cholesterol levels at normal range. Thus, lowering the risk for developing cardiovascular diseases directly related to elevated serum cholesterol. The high fiber content of apple pectin benefits people who want to control weight. Due to this, apple pectin supplements are being used as weight control supplements. Lastly, apple pectin is considered as an effective antioxidant, especially for the cells in the colon. With all these apple pectin benefits, it’s true that “an apple a day keeps the doctor away”, thanks to apple pectin.

What is Pectin? Pectin is a water soluble fiber naturally found in some fruits and vegetables. Among all fruits and vegetables containing Pectin, Apple is said to have the highest pectin concentration. All kinds of apples contain apple pectin but Joganolds are said to have the most apple pectin content. How does apple pectin works? The most notable among apple pectin properties is that despite being a water soluble fiber, it is also an indigestible fiber. When it is mixed with water, apple pectin “gels up” after cooling. The gel formed acts like a broom that sweeps toxins and waste material away from the intestinal tract. When it enters the large intestines, apple pectin is broken down into short chain fatty acids that exhibit beneficial pre-biotic effects. This dietary fiber increases the volume of the stool and at the same time improves fluid resistance for successful passing of stool. Apple pectin also works by providing powerful antioxidant protection, especially for the colon. Antioxidants are substances that help the body lower cholesterol, regulate blood sugar, and fight cancer cells. Raw apples contain higher apple pectin amounts rather than apple juice and apple jellies. Apple pectin powder is also manufactured into capsules and pills to form apple pectin supplements.
